Do you think artists fulfill human needs with the work they create? (feel free to comment :) I'm so curious about your thoughts on this.)

1 deviant said Yes, definitely!
1 deviant said not sure ...
No deviants said No, I don't think so.
Hello everyone,

Sorry for being away for so long again. I was busy with some major changes in life. As I told you in October, I have finished university, moved to Austria and began to explore my relationship with art. So in November I signed up for a coaching program with Matt from It was definitely the right thing to do. Matt made me think and decide on huge things. After the first coaching call I had a list with 26 questions to think deeply about - all of them concerning different parts of the big picture, the body of work I would like to create. I discovered some astonishing things about myself and decided on so many important details, found my focus. During the first weeks Matt also helped me with figure drawing skills and practicing anatomy. I still find practicing anatomy one of the most boring things to do in life, but I already get the rewards when working on finished stuff, so I'm at it more regularly now. I even made my own drawing cast from clay last week^^ But back to the coaching experience. During the second coaching call we realised that it was time I worked on a big project to make me see that I can do it. So the rest of the coaching was dedicated to the process of creating a portfolio test piece: Schmetterlingstanz.

I learned a lot in the process: How to use references in a professional way, that I need to do color sketches after the first value sketch, to simplify shadowshapes and that soft edges mean movement. That it helps to find some keywords / a short sentence in the sketching phase to guide me through the whole painting. That I constantly need to focus on the emotion I want to convey and that it is a good idea to listen to inspiring music while painting.

Sadly, the coaching cycle is over now. It was so much fun and I'm sure it has saved me years of figuring things out. Maybe even a lifetime. Without the coaching I might still ask myself if it's ok for me to dream about being a professional artist. Whereas now I'm on track. I'm already working on the next piece, practicing regularly and I have a clue of what I'm actually doing. For the first time in my life my dreams feel real and achievable. And with your wonderful support I know everything is possible. Thank you everyone who is with me on this journey  It means a lot to me!

Kunst . . .

Kunst kommt von können, nicht von wollen - sonst würde es ja Wunst heißen. (Karl Valentin)
